This painting began as an objective landscape on site. I quickly tired of the 'view' and the virgin arrived early morning as I emerged from sleep considering my options. The actual figure is quite small, no more than 60cm high and it has a wardrobe of outfits for different festivals. The motto reads: "SALVE REGINA MATER MISERICORDIA"

Le Puy was a gathering point for pilgrims making the journey to Santiago de Compostella in the Middle Ages.
