This large work was shown in 1991 and completely reworked with the addition of the saltire for the solo exhibition “In the Mind’s Eye”.

"The calmness of the 'diagrammatic model' landscape is balanced in the composition by a raft or platform on which the purist symbols are almost overwhelmed by the chaotic forms which dance around the saltire. It is like an archaeology of the painter’s imagination resolving itself into ever more direct and simple forms."

Euan McArthur, “In the Mind’s Eye”.

The saltire is reduced in both tone and colour and humorously represents the artist’s 'grey nationalism'.
