This work was painted on the balcony of the Carvalho apartment in Leblon, Rio de Janeiro and completed in my studio. The sunlight was intense and at night in a wooded area opposite I could hear the drums and and muffled shouts from a Macumba temple.

It was the first still life I had painted since Art College in the mid sixties.
